Ashanti Shequoiya Doug, better known in the media as Ashanti was born on the 13th of October 1980 in Glen Cove New York United States. She is a singer, songwriter from America and actress. Ashanti, a teenage singer-songwriter and actress from America is signed with Murder Inc. Records to record her in 2002. The same year, she was featured in The Fat Joe's What's Luv? Also, she was featured in Fat Joe's track What's the Luv? It was the first time for a female artist to take the top two spots on the Billboard Hot 100 list in the United States with Foolish at number one and the track What's Luv? in second position. Tina Douglas, her mother is a retired dance instructor. Ken-Kaide Douglas is her father. Kenashia Shia is her younger sibling. Douglas named her Ashanti after Ghana's Ashanti Empire, where women were in charge and held an influence. Douglas wanted Ashantis to follow this paradigm. James Her grandfather was a prominent leader of civil rights in the 1960s who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. Her mother was aware of her daughter's talents when she overheard her singing Mary J. Blige's Reminisce. Ashanti was a child actor on Spike Lee's Malcolm X and Ted Demme's Who's the Man? She also had a few cameos in music videos including K.R.S.-Act One's MC's don't know and 8-Off's Ghetto Girl. Ashanti was sought out and signed by a variety of label owners, including Bad Boy. She also appeared in a couple of music videos. But she did play in and around New York and began hanging at Murder Inc. Murder Inc. recording studio in hopes of securing a big break. Ashanti initially appeared on Big Pun's song How We Roll as a backing vocalist. Ashanti also sang on the track of Fat Joe, What's Luv? Ja Rule's "Always on Time" and Fat Joe's "What's Luv?" were also featured. The track she used for her first single Foolish comes from DeBarge's Stay with Me which was released in 1983. Ashanti's self-titled debut album was released by her album Murder Inc. in 2002 was Ashanti. The Declaration is Ashanti's fourth studio album, was released on June 3, 2008. On October 16 Hey Baby (After the Club) was released on stations and digital platforms. She was in the film Christmas in the City and as Latasha of Montclair's character in Army Wives. Her song Rock wit U was sampled by British musician Aitch for his song Baby in March 10, 2022.
